Fort Fisher Ferry to Re-open February 2nd – It seems like it has been forever but it’s only been two months. The ramp renovations are now complete. On Monday, February 2nd, the Fort Fisher Ferry will resume its regular schedule with the first ferry scheduled to leave Southport at 5:30 a.m. Anyone having a Commuter Pass that was valid during December or January can have their pass expiration date extended for two months. Shanty’s Beach and Blues Club Grand Opening – The Official Grand Opening of Shanty’s Beach and Blues Club is coming! Join DeeJay Salty Dawg on Friday, February 6th for live music with the Holiday Band from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Cover charge is $5.00 for members and $10.00 for non members. Then, come back on February 7th starting at noon for free hot dogs. Also, from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., shag along with DJ Lanny Elmore. Shanty’s will also be offering $2.00 domestic beers. Pleasure Island Drama Club – Although Friday Night Live has been temporarily discontinued, the Drama Club has plenty to offer including their very first production entitled "Big Bad". This is the story of the Big Bad Wolf who is slapped with a class-action lawsuit by the countless quirky characters he has wronged. Now, the 2 greatest legal minds in the enchanted Forest, the Evil Stepmother and Fairy Godmother, will clash in a trial that will be remembered forever. As a bonus, the audience will be able to participate as they are charged with being the jury and will decide the Big Bad Wolf’s fate. "Big Bad" will be playing at the Katie B. Hines Senior Center on Cape Fear Boulevard February 6th, 7th and 8th. The cost is $5.00 per person. Show times are 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. American Legion Monthly Fish Fry - On Friday, February 6th from 11 am to 7 pm, the American Legion Post 129 will host their monthly fish fry. The price is $8.00 per person and includes fresh fried fish with cole slaw, potato salad, corn on the cob and hushpuppies. There is free delivery with an order of 10 or more plates.
