2009 Coastal Plain League All Star Game Hosted by the Wilmington Sharks – The All Star Game Festivities will begin on Monday, July 20th when the Wilmington Sharks will host the All-star Fan Fest and Home Run Derby. Fans will have the chance to meet both CPL All-Star teams during that time and then look on as 16 of the best hitters in the league battle it out in the annual Home Run Derby. Tuesday, join the Sharks at Buck Hardee Field for the 2009 Coastal Plain League All Star Game. Island of Lights Reception – Everyone is invited to the introduction of the Island of Lights 2009 Christmas Card and Ornament. The artists will be on site to sign the cards and ornaments on Sunday, July 26th from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at The Frame Mart located at 1009 N. Lake Park Boulevard. Fundraiser Event for Step Up for Soldiers at The Last Resort – You are invited to join the members of The Last Resort on July 31st for a fundraiser for Step up for Soldiers in honor of North Carolina troops leaving Iraq who face lifelong injuries. Step up for Soldiers assists families making homes handicap accessible for those returning home with lifelong disabilities. Step up for Soldiers and its volunteers build ramps, widen doorways, do plumbing or anything else these injured soldiers need to make their lives whole again. The event will take place on July 31st starting at 7:00 p.m. There will be a Pig Pick’n with all the fixins and the rock band Bald Fury will provide live entertainment. The Last Resort is "CALLING ALL MERCHANTS" – A "Save the Ta Tas" Breast Cancer Event will be held at the Last Resort on Sunday, August 2nd benefiting Coastal Care Van, a non-profit organization offering mammograms to residents of New Hanover County who cannot afford them. The evening will consist of a bachelor auction, activities, dinner, and a Pink Balloon Purchase where each balloon purchased will have a gift attached to it. The Last Resort is asking for contributions of gift certificates for dinners and events as well as retail shops, services, etc. Cash donations are also gratefully accepted. Have Some Fun with the American Pride Fall 2009 Bowling League at Cardinal Lanes – Starting in August, Cardinal Lanes will be hosing the American Pride Fall 2009 Bowling League. This is a great way to have a lot of fun with friends and family or to represent your company against other area businesses. There is no entry cost, beginners are welcome and no handicap is required. This will be 9 Pin No Tap. Each 4 person team will bowl 3 games. Leagues will bowl on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings and cost is $13.00/week per individual. Weekly cost includes record keeping, trophies and the end of the season Pizza Party. Team space is limited in each division and leagues begin August 17th.
