Fisherman’s Post to Host NC Flatfish Championships – Fisherman’s Post Newspaper will be hosting their Second Annual Fall Flounder Tournament on September 18th and 19th out of Joyner Marina. Registration is Friday, September 18th or you can pre-register at Island Tackle & Hardware and the one day of fishing is Saturday, September 19th. There is over $14,000 in prize money offered. The Seventh Annual Southern Coastal Bluegrass Festival is Coming- The Thalian Association is proud to present the Seventh Annual Bluegrass Festival at Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area on September 19th and 20th. This years bands include A Deeper Shade of Blue, Carolina Junction, The Hagar’s Mountain Boys, Ken Scoggins & Miller’s Creek, L Shape Lot, R.C. Harris and Blue Denim, Ted Jones & The Tarheel Boys and the Wells Family. Advance tickets are $10.00 each day. At the gate tickets will be $15.00 each day or $25.00 for the weekend. Town of Carolina Beach to Host Ribbon Cutting – On Friday, September 25, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., the Town of Carolina Beach will be hosting an Entryway Enhancement Project Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. The Ceremony will take place at the intersection of Lake Park Boulevard and Dow Road, in front of the CVS. Parking will be available at the Carolina Beach Town Hall, CVS or at the Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church. www.carolinabeach.org

The Big Beach Sweep is Coming – On September 26th at 9:00 the Annual Big Sweep will take place. If you would like to help in cleaning up our waterway, meet at the Boardwalk Gazebo in Carolina Beach or the Kure Beach Pier in Kure Beach. Bring sturdy shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Wilmington Oktoberfest is Coming to Pleasure Island – On Friday, September 25 from 5 – 9 and running through September 26 from 11 – 9, Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area will be alive with music, tents, German food and, of course, German beer! Spaten Brewery, home of the original Oktoberfest, will provide 4 styles of beer served in authentic glass steins. The Harbor Towne Fest Band, North Carolina’s premier full size Oktoberfest Blaskapelle Band, will be playing. Donations from proceeds will benefit the Children’s Miracle Network and local charities. Island Women to Host 2nd Annual Women’s Health Summit – Saturday, October 17th at the Beach House at Fort Fisher Recreation Area, Island Women will be hosting the 2nd Annual Women’s Health Summit. Registration Fee is $75.00 but if you register before September 30th, the fee is only $55.00. This fee covers spa snack, spa lunch, seminars and Exhibit Hall fees. Topics to be discussed include "Educate before you Vaccinate", "What in the Cell if Going On?", "Do you need to Detox", "Bio-Identical Hormones for Women 35 and up" and "Thyroid Dysfunction Despite Normal Test Results". Red and White Fundraiser for the Red Cross to be held at Beau Rivage – The 2nd Annual Red & White Fundraiser will be held on October 23rd from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. at Beau Rivage. Tickets will be $35/person or $60/couple. This includes heavy hors d’oeuvres, over 40 varieties of wine, plenty of micro-brew beers to taste and a silent auction.
