UPCOMING EVENT REMINDER

Spend Christmas Eve with Michael’s Seafood – Michael’s Seafood will be open on
Christmas Eve. The special will be slow roasted Prime Rib of Beef and a Carolina Oyster Roast.
The oyster roast includes a cup of delicious seafood chowder, steamed Stump Sound oysters, peel & eat shrimp, tender little neck clams, smoked sausage, grilled corn on the cob, roasted potatoes and homemade coleslaw and cornbread. The full menu will also be available. Need a last minute gift idea? Michael’s offers gift cards in any denomination. Island of Lights Countdown to New Year’s – The Island of Lights Annual New Year’s Eve
Party and Fireworks Celebration will be held in Kure Beach this year. Music and Dancing will start at 9:00 pm by the Kure Beach Fishing Pier and DJ Tommy King will be playing the Best of the Oldies, Beach Music and the Top 40. Come join Kure Beach & Carolina Beach Mayors
countdown the New Year and watch the Kure Beach Fire Department drop a Giant Beach Ball to
bring in 2009. Fireworks and entertainment are FREE.

Christmas Tree Recycling – New Hanover County residents can resolve to start the New Year in a greener way by putting their holiday greenery to good use. Christmas tree recycling is a good way to reuse those firs and helps spruce up our local landscape. Please recycle your Christmas trees at these locations:
• Smith Creek Park – off Gordon Road
• Landfill – 5210 US Hwy 421 North
• Diversified Biomass – on Sunnyvale Drive
• Myrtle Grove Middle School – 901 Piner Road
Trees can be taken to these locations from December 26th through January 31st. Please remove all decorations and lights. Trees will be ground into mulch for landscaping material or boiler fuel
All used wrapping paper and cardboard boxes can by recycled at the following locations:
• Market Street beside Blair Elementary School
• Monkey Junction at Moose Lodge 353 on Carolina Beach Road
• Murrayville at Lowes Foods
• Veteran’s Park behind Murray Middle School
• Castle Hayne beside Hardee’s
• County Landfill on Hwy 421
Residents with curbside recycling can place their paper in their recycling bins.

New Year’s Eve Party at the Carolina Shag Club – Come ring in the New Year with Julie
and Johnny at the Carolina Shag Club. DJ Milton White will bring the best beach/shag music and
Fran Reed and Brenda Benton will be preparing a buffet of heavy hors d’oeuvres. Admission is
$20.00 per person and the doors open at 8:00 p.m. As always, the Shag Club will provide the party hats, noise makers and a champagne toast at midnight. For more information, contact the Shag Club at 620-4025.
